Extra-curricular Activities
A rich programme of extra-curricular activities ensures that every young person has opportunities to participate in a wide range of activities: this embraces sporting and physical activities, intellectual pursuits such as debating or chess, performing arts including drama productions and school orchestra and a range of craft/technology activities. In particular, the Academy make music lessons available for all pupils.
The Academy recognises the importance of physical education as the basis for a healthy lifestyle and offers a wide range of sports and physical activities based on a minimum of two hours per week for all pupils. This consists of two compulsory PE sessions of 55 minutes plus access to a range of extra-curricular physical activities.
The exceptional grounds in which the Academy is located provides an ideal opportunity for major team sports, including, but not limited to, football, rugby, hockey, netball, cricket, and basketball as well as individual pursuits such as athletics, tennis, badminton, dance, table tennis, trampolining and fencing.
The Academy has established a Duke of Edinburgh award scheme and also supports volunteering and association with uniformed activities such as cadets and St John Ambulance. In addition, it also encourages pupils in supporting various charities with various fundraising activities and awareness.
Consistent with its commitment to achieve universal literacy and numeracy the Academy arranges summer schools and special programmes to help boost those at risk of failure.
Sponsors, with their wide range of contacts and resources, have supported the organising of a wider range of activities beyond the school day, including, but not limited to trips and visits related to pupils' studies.
