During her informal and relaxed visit she attended a science lesson, a specialism subject taught at the Academy, and saw an art, and drama performance in a special assembly, accompanied by the school band.

During her tour she also had the opportunity to see the progress of the construction of the new school buildings, and was introduced to some long serving members of staff and Governors. A high tea was served, prepared by year 10 food technology pupils.

Matthew Slater, Principal said: "It is wonderful that people in the Royal Family are taking an interest in Harold Hill and the fact that we are trying to provide quality eductation for future generations. It was a great honour to show Her Royal Highness around the Academy and great that she met so many of our pupils and staff. These are exciting times at Drapers’ Academy with the construction of the new mutli million pound school buildings fully underway.”

Her Lady in Waiting wrote to us after the visit to express the Duchess' thanks for the warm welcome she received commenting that the Academy provided an inspirational atmosphere, and how wonderful it was to see this in the pride shown by all. She was particularly touched by the goody box of food presented to her on departure.
