Demolition of King's Wood School

The building of the new Drapers' Academy is fully underway this week with the demolition of the North block building of the former King's Wood School. For many of the teachers and pupils there was a tinge of sadness as they saw their former classrooms demolished to make way for the new multi million pound school building for the new Academy.

In September 2010 Drapers' Academy opened in the existing buildings of King's Wood School following refurbishment of the South building of the old King's Wood School which now accommodates most classes, whilst five science classrooms/laboratories have also been provided in temporary accommodation. Although the Academy opened in the existing buildings, it represent s a new approach to education locally, and will play a major part in the aspiration to regenerate Harold Hill. This will be principally through the Harold Hill Learning village but also through establishing close links with a wide variety of community activities and other educational establishments.
