Pupils cook up a new learning experience.

Four pupils at Drapers’ Academy will be getting the opportunity to excel at cooking when they attend Havering College to do an Edexcel course in Food Preparation. The course provides the children with some basic skills and practical experience in preparing food.

This is the first such collaboration between the new Drapers’ Academy and Havering College. Matthew Slater, Principal at Drapers’ Academy commented, “At Drapers’ Academy we want to equip all our pupils with life and educational skills to be successful in future employment. We hope that as well as gaining some practical skills and qualifications in food preparation, that these pupils will also benefit from gaining confidence from the college experience, some independence, as well as build their self esteem.”

The pupils; Corry, Matthew, Courtney and Daniel, all from year 10, will be attending Havering College one morning a week.

“The feedback from the pupils was that they really enjoyed their first morning at the college. This is an important step for the Academy in providing co-curricular activities for our pupils,” said Nicola Strutt, Food Technology teacher at Drapers’ Academy.
