Visit to Houses of Parliament

6th June 2011

Pupils from Drapers' Academy had a unique opportunity to visit the Houses of Parliament as guests of Sir Peter Bottomley, Member of Parliament and past Master of Drapers' Company, accompanied by Humanities Teacher, Mrs Little.

The pupils, Oliver Buckle, Pauline Siasat, Ruth Mensah, Craig Bowerman and Grace Taylor, are pictured with Sir Peter Bottomley on the terrace, an area not normally included in visitor tours, and is where Members of Parliament, and Lords, can lunch and dine in the summer.

The also visited both the House of Commons chamber, and the House of Lords chamber, noting the green seating, carpets and decor in the Commons areas, and red seating etc. denoting the Lords. They were also very impressed by the beautiful painting that adorned the walls of the corridors for both Houses.

As their smiles show it was a really fabulous day, and made a great impression on the children. Perhaps we may see them back there one day as MP's themselves!
