Drapers' Academy Great Cook Off
24th January 2012
Pupils at this morning’s Year 7, 8 and 9 assembly had a mouth watering start to the day when two chefs, Mark and David Borrell, who have formerly worked in top London establishments, brought a touch of celebrity to the technology assembly when they hosted a cook off contest.
The competition was between two teams consisting of Mr Siziba and Prince Bahati for the red team, and Mr Bangs and Nani Mntonintshi for the blue team. Both were led by their expert chef to create an appetising and healthy meal that was also quick to prepare. The red team produced a delicious vegetable stir fry served with noodles, whilst the blue team made healthy beef burgers served with salad.
The assembly finished with the two chefs having a speed omelette cook off. All good fun but demonstrating how easy and quick it is to prepare a nutritious and healthy meal.
Sadly there wasn’t time to taste the dishes but they smelt delicious and the blue team was declared the winner by a show of hands for the best menu.
Our thanks go to Community Chefs Mark and David Borrell for sharing their expertise in the kitchen and making cooking healthy food such fun, we hope they have inspired some of our pupils. Also thanks to Friends of Drapers’ Academy for introducing the community project to the Academy. Finally thanks to Mr Bangs and Mr Siziba for hosting the assembly, and being fabulous good sports by donning chefs aprons and hats, and rolling up their sleeves and cooking!
