Getting Greener

Pupils have started an environment club at the Academy, called Planet Drapers’, with science teacher, Miss Paolino. One of their first projects is a paper collection scheme to encourage the collection of every piece of scrap paper at the Academy. Every class will now have its own green crate to encourage pupils and teachers to recycle more than we currently do by collecting every bit of paper for recycling.

Each week a team of pupils from the environment club will collect the crates and empty them into the large recycle containers in the main reception. Hopefully this will help towards increasing the amount we recycle, making us a ‘greener’ school.

The club is also participating in a nationwide competition called Sky Rainforest Rescue School’s Challenge, which involves finding out where the food in schools is sourced from and encouraging the purchase of fair trade or Rainforest Alliance registered products. And finally the group plan to grow some of their own vegetables. We look forward to sampling them when the weather is warmer!
