An update to last weeks story about our pupil, Paris Bowers, who had been nominated in the unsung heroes category for the Aviva/ Telegraph Sports Matters Awards. Quite simply they had a fantastic day which Paris enjoyed enormously – after the tour of the stadium Paris had the chance to meet so many sports stars, being able to chat to them and see some of their Olympic medals as shown in the photo gallery.

Paris was awarded a commendation for her abilites in overcoming a difficult home life without any kind of resentment. On her award certificate Gareth A Davies says of Paris – you are a true unsung hero and and inspiration to us all. You are invited as a role model in your school for your exemplary attitude and dedication to the sporting life of the school. We are delighted to honour you in our School Sports Matters Awards 2011.

With over 600 people nominated in this category it was an amazing achievement to receive the commendation and although Paris missed out on the top prize she was made to feel a star for the day. Mrs Blair commented, “ we feel that Paris is a little star who puts sports and sports participation high on her list of  priorities, always helping out when asked.”

The Daily Telgraph covered the awards with a two page article in their sports section on Friday 4th November.
