Co-Curricular

We offer a rich and varied co-curricular programme at Drapers' Academy sixth form to support our students' development across the two years they are with us. Whilst academic studies are important, so is the development of transferable skills which are required to successfully navigate life. Our co-curricular progamme provides opportunities to help students develop these skills across various different disciplines, whilst also providing them with the opportunity to pursue interests and hobbies and help support their wellbeing on a day-to-day basis.

CLUBS

We offer a vast array of clubs ranging from those that provide academic support to those that get pupils outside and active. Our full programme of co-curricular clubs can be found below.

MENTORING

Students in years 12 and 13 are provided with various opportunites across the 2 years to act as mentors to their peers. Mentoring is an excellent opportunity for students to develop communication skills, enhance working relationships, create lasting impact and, most importantly of all, support others to reach their goals.

  • Reading Buddies
Students in the sixth form are provided with the opportunity to become a 'reading buddy' to pupils in years 7 and 8 to help develop these pupils' literacy skills. This provides a great opportunity for our sixth form students to build and develop their communication skills.

  • Sixth Form Mentoring
In year 13 all students are allocated to year 12 students (matched based on subjects studied) to mentor across the year. This provides year 13 students with an opportunity to strengthen relationships and form effective coaching partnerships.

  • Year 11 Mentoring
In the Spring term our year 12 students are provided with the opportunity of mentoring selected year 11 students in matched subjects to help support their studies in the run up to their GCSEs.

LEADERSHIP

Various opportunities are offered to our sixth formers to help develop vital leadership skills that they can carry onwards into life beyond A Levels:

  • Junior Leadership Team

Our Junior Leadership Team support the Sixth Form Team with the day-to-day running of our sixth form. Each member of the team is given a specific role that they are in charge of for the year. Each academic year new head students are chosen from within the JLT group, to lead the pupil and student body. Several candidates interview in front of a panel including the Principal, Ms Dineen.

''My role in the JLT is to find different ways to help contribute to mental health among students within the school seeing as it's an issue that is growing more prevalent as time goes on and can contribute to helping students feel happier and more excited about their education'' Chase Wells

''I am Head Girl at Drapers' Academy and my role is to make sure that our school is united from the secondary school to the sixth form through charity events that bring us together with the common goal of helping those in need as well as organising fun events'' Xhevisa Bardoshi

  • School Newspaper
Our school newspaper, Drapers' Papers, is run exclusively by our sixth form students. Students have the opportunity to take on roles within the editorial team and manage their own team of journalists within this role.

  • Running Co-Curricular Clubs
As well as attendance at co-curricular clubs, our students are encouraged to run and lead their own clubs. We currently have a year 12 girls netball team run by a year 12 student along with a prayer group and a singing club.
